What Huntsville Patients Say About
Alabama Chiropractic Back and Pain Clinic
If you're not one of the many people who consult our clinic from a referral, it can be helpful to hear what other patients say about their experience in our practice.
There are no coincidences in life, only miracles!
I have managed by the grace of God to be in my seventieth year on this earth. I do honestly thank God for the countless seeming coincidences that have occurred throughout my life. Meeting a Chiropractor by chance at age 18 was an unforgettable experience. That moment in time convinced me without doubt that life lived absent of Chiropractic Care is unthinkable.
It was the summer of 1956, I was a submariner assigned to the USS Sea Lion, a US Navy submarine. On a routine cruise to Guantonamo Bay, Cuba, we lost all control of the boat on what was normally a routine dive. I was in my bunk sleeping when the boat submerged, it immediately went down at 32 degrees, I was tossed out of my bunk head-on into the steel bulkhead.
I'll not recount the horror of heading to the bottom of six mile deep water here, but the crew recovered the Sea Lion controls and managed to get back to the surface. The experience sent me into what was later described by top Navy Medical Specialists as severe shock causing my hair to fall out in large patches. The Navy then sent me especially to the top medical doctors in Massachusetts where I got the same diagnosis. "There's nothing that can be done, it is your nerves," they said.
Home on leave I visited my mother at her workplace, she was a receptionist for a Chiropractor in my hometown. She was horrified to see the bald spots on my head. The Chiropractor heard me explain the circumstances relating the cause being my nerves according to the nation's top medical specialists.
"The diagnosis is correct," said Dr. Bailey, the Chiropractor, "however, they obviously didn't tell you that nerves have substance, are real, and are not some invisible intangible malady a person has to accept." He went on to assure me my condition was treatable.
During my stay at home on leave Dr. Bailey adjusted the vertebrae in my neck daily, his x-ray showed the misalignment caused when I crashed into the submarine bulkhead. After a few weeks my hair was back to normal. I WAS AMAZED! Especially after all the depressing comments from all those top medical doctors. Had I not encountered Chiropractic by chance(a miracle directed by God), I might have gone through life in a much different way.
I might have been like many of the people my age that spent their lives on prescription drugs to deal with their 'nerves,' their bodily malfunctions, and their countless aches and pains. Chiropractic has spared me from all that. Prescription drugs have never been an ongoing necessity in my life, nor have lingering aches and pains.
I've lived all over the free world in many different places. Wherever I've lived my first duty in any new location has been to seek out the top Chiropractor. After returning home to Middle Tennessee a couple of years ago I sought out Dr. Bob Richards D.C., in Huntsville. I see Dr. Bob regularly and he keeps my body in tip top condition to live the same lifestyle I did at age 20.
Friends and strangers I meet are amazed that I'm so fit for my age and want to know my secret. I tell them; exercise, a few vitamins, and regular visits to Huntsville's Back Pain Clinic for adjustments by Dr. Richards. It's not a secret at all, it's just plain old common sense. But, sometimes it requires a miracle to have an encounter with common sense.
Sincerely,
James Allen Whitehead

Before visiting your office, my husband suffered with migraine headaches for about 8 or 9 years.
Hello Dr. Richards,
I think it's about time that I let other people know about how helpful and health-full our visits to you have been. Before visiting your office, my husband suffered with migraine headaches for a long time. For about 8 or 9 years. When he first went to the doctor about these headaches, he was told that he needed glasses. So they prescribed glasses for him. This eased the headaches for a while, but they started up again. Then at my persistence, he went to another doctor to be checked for high blood pressure. That doctor told us that his blood pressure was extremely high, so he prescribed medication for 'his high blood pressure'.
Like the glasses, this only worked for a while, a short one at that. He went back and forth to the doctor's office about his headaches. The doctor continued to adjust and/or change his medication.
He decided to visit a chiropractor, not for his headaches, but for the pain in his neck and lower back; as you know, he is a long distance truck driver. After his examination and x-rays were completed, we learned that he had a number of things that were contributing to, not only his neck and back pain, but his headaches as well. He and I both were amazed. I could not believe it. There are so many things that we accepted as: 'O.K.', 'Oh, it will be all right', 'It will get better' and my favorite 'I'll get use to it'. Well, now I know that I do not have to adjust to a painful and uncomfortable life. My husband is very please. He smiles and jokes a lot more now. I love it. Immediately following his first week of treatments, his headaches went away and his lower back pain and neck pain has improved dramatically. His is having to go back to the doctors for a re-examination of his eyes and the high blood pressure. Both of these solutions may be too strong for him now. This is not to say that he does not need them, he may not need as much. If more people would only realize that pain and discomfort are warning signs that something is wrong or something is going wrong.
As for my daughter, every time I think about her condition I just want to cry. And to think this all started with someone else's discomfort. During one of our routine office visits, I heard you mention that a lot of time when children complain about having aches and pains, this may or may not be 'GROWING PANGS'. Well, you were right. I immediately brought my daughter in for an examination; only to learn the she had a serious case of scoliosis. I was dumb found. I am not sure if the severity had stunned me or the fact that she had just had an examination at school to detect scoliosis. I just wanted to cry. Why? Because my child had been complaining all the long, and I, being like the old folks, told her she was only experiencing growing pangs; in the mean time her condition was only worsening. Now that she is being treated and going through therapy, she too, seems to be more happy. For some people, feeling good and better seem to be a thing far from their mind. But if they knew what I know now, they would stop waiting to feel better or stop accepting the pain and discomfort and at least have their back and spine checked. It may not be the root of the problem, but it is better to rule it out than to count it out before you have it checked out.
With Sincere Gratefulness,
Mrs. Sonia High
I had trembling, tingling and numbness in my left arm and hand.
I first went to Dr. Richards around August of 2008. I had trembling, tingling and numbness in my left arm and hand. I had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease by one Specialist. Then another Specialist said I didn’t have Parkinson’s. Needless to say I was at a lost. Then I thought maybe it is my back as I have had back problems in the past. So, I went on line to find a Chiropractor here in Huntsville. I found Dr. Richards web page and was satisfied at the statements and ideals he believes about health and wellness. I made an appointment. The day of my appointment I was surprised at the office and waiting room as it is not elaborate and pretentious, but simple and efficient. The receptionists are so friendly and efficient. There are so many offices today that are efficient but so cold and unfriendly that the patient or customer feels like they are a bother to be there. Not so in Dr. Richards office. These workers make you feel so welcome and as if the minute you walk in, there is no need to worry they will take care of you, and they do! All the staff is so helpful that one never feels they are being a nuisance. I have never had an ill feeling while I am there for treatment, always a good positive feeling. That is something great, isn’t it? Then there’s Dr. Richards.
In many offices, You will be only a number of the many patients coming through the line of patients and nothing else. Not so with Dr. Richards! He listens! He is patient and very caring. I didn't feel that I was only a number. That is what one understands while under the care of Dr. Richards. The first visit is very thorough and took a fair amount of time, which surprised me. When I finally met Dr. Richards I was apprehensive, for I needed to explain so many things about the condition and the past situations concerning it all. I wanted to hurry through it as I knew from past encounters with the medical community that one needed to make haste, and finish up! Not so with Dr Richards! He was actually listening to all I said and had real concern is his eyes. Gradually I could detect that this Dr. was not the norm and that he really had a human personal feeling for the wellbeing for the patient in front of him. He listened! Personally, that was the most amazing to me that a medical practitioner would genuinely show concerned and listen to the patient. He took a longer time on the first visit writing and asking questions. I realized that this Dr. was not going to hurry to finish but, wanted to do his best for the patient. That concern has never diminished in the least bit over the year I have been under the care of Dr. Richards. He still will listen and show the same concern that was in the beginning. He really is a person that has feeling for the other person. His approach is a more natural one and he believes in more prevention care. I like that! All in all it has been a blessing for me for I feel much better now. Dr Richards found that I had three degenerative disks in my neck and a problem between my between my shoulders. Treatment has helped me tremendously, and now I need only to go every couple months for a tune up. I still have some trembling but when it flairs up I go to Dr. Richards and get the care I need to help it. It is always much better after the treatments. I am so grateful to have found such a caring and concerned practitioner and staff that genuinely care. I encourage anyone that feels they need help from a Chiropractor then go to Dr. Richards and his staff for they will give you more than a fix. You will receive real genuine care. I am very grateful for Dr Richards and all his staff and want to thank them from the deepest part of my heart. Thank you all very much!
Your friend and patient,
Cheryl Melinz
"What you have done borders on a miracle."
"I was more worried about this neck injury than any physical aliment I've ever had, because in every case before (with the exception of the Lyme Disease I had) I could see some improvement every day, whereas with this neck thing the opposite was happening, it was getting worse every day.
"So finally I came to you and you fixed it. Man am I ever grateful to you for that. I had gotten to the point where I was beginning to think I was going to be an invalid for the rest of my life, and in constant pain to boot. What you have done for me borders on being a miracle, at least in my book. I'm sure glad my son-in-law (ex-son-in-law now) recommended you to me. And in turn, I'm recommending you to all my friends. It'll only be a matter of time before some of them show up at your door.
"Thank you again for what you have done for me."

"My carpal tunnel problem went away."
"I had been suffering from neck and back pain, and Carpal tunnel in both hands. I took physical therapy for neck and back pain from a local physical therapy facility and was getting ready to have surgery for carpal tunnel problems on my right hand. In physical therapy, I got some better. In February 2006, I was getting ready to have the surgery on my right hand for carpel tunnel because of pain.
"I could not hold things in my hands, or write legible, and my thumb and index fingers were constantly numb.
"I was told that I should see a Chiropractor, but I was hesitant about receiving treatments from a Chiropractor because of the negative things (how they might hurt you). I had to do something, as I didn’t want surgery, so I went to Dr. Robert Richards (Chiropractor) who was a very gentle and caring doctor. Not only has he helped my Carpal tunnel Problem, but also my neck and low back hardly ever bother me now. I have been very pleased with the results of my health.
"Now that I have received treatments from Dr. Richards, my quality of life has improved 100%. My Carpal tunnel problem went away. I receive tune ups just like you have to tune up your car, or sometimes I go in a little earlier for a treatment if I pull a muscle, bend the wrong way or lift something wrong.
"I can’t say thank you enough Dr. Richards and your staff for your caring ways and improving my quality of life. You really made me smile."

Traffic Accident
My name is Tonia Logan and I came to Dr. Richards when I had a traffic accident in 2008. When I started coming here they all made me feel right at home. In the beginning it wasn’t easy, every other day I had to come in. I had a neck and back injury. They all cried with me and became some of my best friends. This is a doctor’s office but they treat you like family. Dr Richards cares about every patient and all of his staff and Ms. Jackie are great!
I had to be off work for almost four months and days I felt like giving up, they let me know I couldn’t quit. I gained so much weight from being off work, about 30 pounds, but Dr. Richards heard my cry and gave me a diet plan and I have lost over 30 pounds, I feel so good about it and I plan to lose 30 more. One day I had sinus trouble and Dr. Richards even fixed that.
There has never been a problem that he didn’t fix. I feel lucky to have a great doctor’s office that cares about everything. It is not just a job for them, it is personal and I am glad that I trusted them all. Now here it is a year later and every body still treats me like family. When I hurt they hurt and I thank God to have met such a great crew to help me get back on track, I still have a long way to go but I’m willing to go all the way because they all are God sent. I have to lose 30 more pounds and with the diet he gave me it will be a piece of cake!
Sincerely,
Tonia J. Logan
