Huntsville Chiropractor, Dr. Robert Richards

Proudly providing Huntsville residents with excellent chiropractic care!

I grew up on a farm in Iowa, worked hard, and did a lot of heavy lifting, which caused a lot of accidents and falls. I was also allergic to the grain dust. I needed to do something else other than be a farmer.

As a young man, I suffered with headaches, back pain, and knee pain. I was in a hospital, wore a back brace, and was given muscle relaxers, pain pills, all with no permanent help. This was very discouraging to think I had to always have these pains. I just wish I had known then what I know now as I now live a comfortable life.

My dear brother said, “lets go to chiropractic college.” That sounded interesting to me, as I love people, and if I could help them that would be good. So we started going to many different chiropractic offices, to see if that was what we wanted to do. We liked what we saw, and the type of conditions they were helping. My father was greatly helped by a chiropractor for his sciatica, as did the man I had worked for several years before.

We researched  several different colleges, and decided on Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis Missouri. I liked the fact we could help people through natural means.

My Educational Experience

Prior to chiropractic college I graduated from DeVry Electrical College in Chicago, IL. Which has been a great help all through my life.

I am a graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri

I’m a Member of Alabama State Chiropractic Association and North Alabama Chiropractic Society.

We’ve had post graduate studies in Orthopedics, Scoliosis treatment, Nutrition, Physical Impairment Rating, Industrial Ergonomic Evaluation, and Physio-therapy, X-ray pathology.

I attended Logan College in St. Louis Missouri during the day, and put himself through college working for Eastern Airlines at night. I couldn’t believe how much my health improved while attending college.

I was determined to learn everything, so I could help others. My favorite class was anatomy, which showed the workings of the body. I couldn’t get enough of the adjusting technique (which is the correcting of spinal subluxation's). The clinic director was always giving me real difficult cases, causing me to believe that he was mad at me, so I asked him why. He said, “if I thought you couldn’t handle them I wouldn’t have given them to you.” This changed my attitude about treating difficult conditions.

Practice Philosophy and Care Objectives

We want to help as many people as we can, specializing in chronic and difficult cases. We only accept patients that we truly feel we can help. Most of the people that come to us are medical failures and are coming to us as their last resort. The patients that respond the best, are the ones that follow the doctors orders, keep their appointments, etc.

Some of the most soul-satisfying and deeply fulfilling aspects of our practice, is the patient that has been every where with no help, and we have given them a new lease on life. We love helping the auto accident patients. Approximately 30 percent of the practice are auto injuries.

Family and Interests

I have four children, who all live in this area, four grand children and two great grand children.

My current wife was introduced to me by a chiropractic friend who had known her a long time. She has two wonderful children.

I am a pilot. Flying and talking planes is my third love. Flying, traveling with my wife, playing with my great grand children, and visiting with my own children and step children causes time to pass  quickly

Health Habits

I have received chiropractic treatments for years. In between corrective adjustments, I receive maintenance adjustments.

My main workout is adjusting patients. I take many different vitamins and minerals, eat a lot of salads, and get at least eight hours of sleep. My family all get their spinal adjustments. We all are very healthy.

I am against the indiscriminate use of antibiotics, as it affects the stomach, lowers the immune system. My patient's are instructed as to what counter acts the affects of antibiotics afterwards.

Dr. Richards Asks some important questions of interest to Huntsville residents - Chiropractor Huntsville Dr. Richards Asks...

What controls every cell, tissue and organ of your body?
DNA? Wrong. Immune system? Wrong? Hormones? Wrong. It's your nervous system, consisting of your brain, spinal cord and all the nerves of your body. When a chiropractor sees a Huntsville patient with say, stomach problems, we want to know why the brain is unable to properly control and regulate the stomach. Which prompts us to examine the nervous system—the focus of chiropractic care.
Is a muscle spasm a cause or an effect?
With the knee-jerk use of muscle relaxers, you'd think it was a cause. But it's an effect. Chiropractors know that bones don't move unless muscles move them. And muscles don't contract unless commanded by the nervous system. That's why your nervous system is the focus of our Huntsville chiropractic practice.
